I don't believe it the Wii is a good name. In fact the name will not turn people away, instead people will want to know what it is. Also for those who don't buy one, once they hear or get a chance to play with the Wii all preconcived notions on the Wii will melt away. I hated the name also but it grows on you after away. Look at all the gameboy it didn't recive much fanfare same with google. In fact the names playstation or xbox doesn't sound too appealing anyways, they sound for lack of a better word geeky or nerdy. Actually the playstation name sounds a tad bit gay i mean think about Play Station WTF.

Nintendo GameZone, Nintendo FutureNation - Have some thing like playstation (zone = place, naton = place, station=place)
Nintendo GlobalBOX - Have something like x'box'
It's hard to find a sound that friendly and "easy to remember" for nongamer. And I think Wii is a cool name. And 3 of this are too long.

GameZone, FutureNation and GlobalBOX just have to be the downright stupidest names I've ever heard. Revolution was good, but it lacked use in the market, Wii is unique, and anyone too immature for that can just go cry to their mothers.

I conducted a study of the name almost immediatly after it's unveiling to see what non-gamers initial impressions were.
Anything that said, "that doesn't sound like agame console" or "that sounds good" or "I don't know if it sounds good or bad" I counted as good responses. Anything else was bad. Nearly 75% were immediatly turned off by the name.
There was a user on the Nintendo forums who actually had a list of over 52+ people who were now getting an xbox 360 because of the name. On nintendo forums!

In the current generation console wars Nintendo has the distinct advantage of being the single company with a long term history in the market. Any sally home maker any where in the world has heard of Nintendo and automatically links the name with her understanding of video games. There should be little need for advanced marketing strategy this late in the game for Nintendo. If I had any grievance with the name ?Wii? and I do not, it would be that it is slightly reminiscent of another common acronym WWII. Maybe I am just missing the point here but when I own a ?Wii? I will be playing on my new Nintendo.

This sort of bullshit MUST come from Nintendo America. Gawd you guys can be such 'tards sometimes.
Honestly; it is a game console. It looks like a promising machine; one that will not win on super-duper-ultra-high-def graphics but on innovative games and controls. Who cares what it is called?
I'd buy it even if it was called Nintendo Poopypants mk.2.
Because it will be fun.

1. The other (retarded) suggested names are blatantly not compatible with what Nintendo is trying to do
2. People are getting used to the Wii name
3. Nintendo made it clear it they will stick to it
This "source" is blatantly fake, I can't believe you put it on the front page of your website.
Hey, I can make up stuff too, look:
I made a study and I found that 89% of people think that this article is fake. I have a list of over 245 people who think so.

Imagine if they had changed the name of the Ford Pooh-poop, the Mattel Man-Joose, or the Microsfoft Turd?
This is very short-sighted.

this "source" is dumb for a variety of reasons:
49% and 62% of WHAT? How many people? What's your margin of error? What questions were asked? Oh right, none of that's given. So we can't judge A) how many people we're talking about and B) whether or not the "poll" which didn't actually happen had any form of statistical accuracy.
The three suggested names? All worse than the Wii, or for that matter, the Revolution :p
Smells like crap to me!

forgot to say:
Nintendo's already on record stating they have no intention of changing it, that they knew it'd elicit a poor reaction among some (the overly zealous fanboy crowd) and that they did not care, that they have their reasons for naming it what they did, and they're sticking to that.
This is a whiny fanboy who just can't get over it posting "news" from "Nintendo."
Live, reporting from Redmond, WA, is "Guest," telling you that the Xbox 360 will have a price-drop in November to make the Wii60 an even more attractive combo ... :p
